Need For Speed: Rivals announced for current and next-gen consolesWritten by: / / 7 Comments
EA and developer Ghost Games have today announced Need For Speed Rivals, a brand new entry to the long-running racing series.
Set in Redview County, Need For Speed Rivals places players in an open-world setting and pits law enforcement vehicles up against speed junkies, with additional challenges to complete and collectibles to find in and around the world.
Players will be able to choose to take on the role of the Cops or the Racers in a variety of game modes while ranking up and unlocking new in-game rewards, like new cars, customisation options, and abilities to help capture Racers or outwit the Cops, including turbo boosts, jammers and EMPs, shockwaves, roadblocks and helicopters.

As has become standard for a Need For Speed game lately, Rivals will make extensive use of the series’ online social tool, Autolog, letting players compare their achievements and times with their friends while challenging others to beat them. To help make the multiplayer side of the game more fluid, Rivals will feature drop-in/drop-out online racing using a feature new to the franchise called ‘AllDrive.’
EA describes AllDrive as a way to allow players to seamlessly transition from racing around the open-world on your own, to racing with friends while “destroying the line between singleplayer and multiplayer.”
Executive Producer at Ghost Games Marcus Nilsso said:
“The Need for Speed franchise has been an industry leader bringing social competition to the forefront in games. For the first time, players will have the freedom to seamlessly go from single player to co-op to multiplayer. In Need for Speed Rivals we are creating one game experience with one progression, where the freedom to play with friends is more fluid and accessible than ever before.”
Using EA’s Frostbite 3 engine, Ghosts Games is working on Need For Speed: Rivals alongside previous Need For Speed series steward, Criterion Games. The team has also announced today that the Ferrari brand will once again be represented in a Need For Speed game – the first time in seven years – with motors like the F12berlinetta making an appearance.
Need For Speed Rivals is out on November 19th in the US, and November 22nd in Europe and the UK, across PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
A pre-order bonus has already been revealed for Rivals, which will net you the ‘Ultimate Cop Pack’ which includes “access to a powerful collection of items including the Nissan GT-R Black Edition cop car, advanced pursuit technology, and a custom livery.”
