Minecraft on the way to 54 million units sold, PS3 Edition hits 2 millionWritten by: / / 1 Comment
If you were under the (false) impression that the immensely popular Minecraft was losing steam and favour with its fans, then let’s talk about some recently revealed sales numbers, shall we?
Originally launched as a full release in late 2011 on PC (following an extended beta period dating back to mid-2009), Minecraft has gone on to find its way onto mobile devices and Xbox 360, with a release on PlayStation 3 more recently, too. All told, the game has sold almost 54 million units worldwide, making it one of the most successful games of all time.
Posting on Twitter recently, Mojang’s business manager Patrick Geuder wrote:
Minecraft console editions together just passed Minecraft for PC/Mac. And across all platforms we've sold almost 54 million copies.

Mojang’s Daniel Kaplan also chimed in with some console sales numbers, writing:
zomg over 13 million copies of Minecraft sold on Xbox360 and over 2 million copies sold on PS3. Yey! Thanks all for the awesome support!

Is there any sign that sales of Minecraft will slow down any time soon?
With releases planned on PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita and Xbox One in August, it’s not likely, so it may just be best to give in and start building a virtual safehouse in the game to pledge your allegiance before Notch and Mojang (inevitably) take over the world.
Are you still playing Minecraft? Have you ever played it?
