Hmm… seems as though some wires were crossed at Sony Computer Entertainment recently, because SCEE community manager Chris Owen has confirmed that PS Plus members will not gain automatic access to next month’s Destiny beta test despite his previous comments, which means you’ll still need to pre-order the game to play the taster in July.

[End of Update]

Original story follows below.

In amongst the announcement of a mighty list of new games coming to PlayStation Plus in Europe starting July 2nd, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s Chris Howe revealed that PS Plus subscribers will also gain access to the upcoming Destiny multiplayer beta next month.

Writing on the PlayStation Blog, Howe said:

“Not only are we bringing you a great mix of games but there’s also the Destiny beta, which kicks off on 17th July exclusively on PlayStation. If you’re a PlayStation Plus member you will be able to fully experience Destiny and its incredible multiplayer.”

Not fully believing the offer, an intrepid NeoGAF user confirmed the announcement with SCEE community manager Chris Owen – here’s the exchange on Twitter:

Previously, anyone wishing to get into the Destiny beta starting July 17th would have had to pre-order the game in order to get a code, but if you’re already a PS Plus subscriber it seems as though there’s no need to fuss.

Have you already pre-ordered Destiny, or were you considering it in order to get access to the beta?
