Shovel Knight – Release Trailer
Did you watch the whole thing? If not, it’s highly recommended you do.
OK, so if you’ve never heard of Shovel Knight before, the long and short of it is that it’s out on June 26th on PC via Steam, as well as on Wii U and 3DS in the US with a European release to follow.
As you can suss out from the trailer, it’s a 2D 8-Bit/16-bit inspired action platformer where you play as the Shovel Knight, an armoured adventurer who uses his trusty ‘Shovel Blade’ to embark on an epic quest to “defeat the evil Enchantress and save his lost beloved.”
What’s the Shovel Blade? According to developer Yacht Club Games, it’s “a multipurpose weapon whose techniques have now been lost to the ages,” and the eagle-eyed amongst you would have spotted just some of the abilities you’ll be able to use thanks to the mysterious relic, like dashing through the air, digging through obstacles and otherwise smashing foes into submission.
Here’s the story setup and a bit of well-earned boasting from the developer:
“[Between] Shovel Knight and his beloved stands a cadre of villainous knights. These terrible foes, known as The Order of No Quarter, have been dispatched to prevent Shovel Knight from reaching the Enchantress at any cost!
“If you love games with perfect platforming, beautiful art, infectious music, crazy bosses, humor and levity, and real heart… Shovel Knight is for you!”
Looking forward to Shovel Knight this week?
