E3 2014: You can play Far Cry 4 co-op online even if you don’t have the game… well, for a limited timeWritten by: / / 6 Comments
Following on from the game’s announcement and release date reveal weeks ahead of E3, Ubisoft delivered a spectacular first look at Far Cry 4 during the opening moments of the publisher’s E3 2014 press conference which featured our first encounter with the game’s terrifyingly psychotic villain.
With the emotional scars still fresh from Ubisoft’s presser, Far Cry 4 received another extended and mightily impressive segment during Sony’s E3 2014 press event where we got to see the game being played for the first time, along with an intriguing PlayStation-exclusive announcement.
The story of Far Cry 4 puts you in control of one Ajay Ghale, who is visiting the fictional region of Kyrat in the Himalayas to scatter his mother’s ashes, as she wished.
As creative director Alex Hutchinson and narrative director Mark Thompson explain in the gameplay video below, Ghale is soon involved in a civil war that has been boiling over and finally erupted in Kyrat, which will see our protagonist fighting for his life and forming alliances with the locals to help where he can, and hopefully escape the nightmare.

Towards the end of that video you would have seen the player enter the ‘Guns For Hire’ co-operative mode, which is where you can call in a friend (or a friend can call you in) online to cause havoc together in the Far Cry 4 sandbox. In this mode, all solo missions are turned off but you’ll still be able to earn experience and rewards without progressing the story.
Exclusively on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, however, you’ll have ten invites to send out to friends called ‘Keys to Kyrat,’ which will let others who don’t even own Far Cry 4 to join you in Guns For Hire mode, for a limited time. Likewise, if you don’t own Far Cry 4 your friends will be able to give you a taste of what you’re missing, which is an amazing feature that we hope is carried over to other games.
Looking forward to Far Cry 4? After everything Ubisoft has shown, November can’t come soon enough!
