This week’s Media Create hardware chart features the Wii U in first position for once thanks to the recent release of Mario Kart 8. Total console sales rose by 12% week over week but were 11% lower compared to the same period last year.

All five of Sony’s consoles featured on the chart recorded lower sales than last week, with the PS4′s performance of particular concern considering how well it’s been doing in the rest of the world. Hopefully Japanese publishers start releasing more games for the console soon otherwise it’s going to be some time before the PS4 gains any sort of momentum in its home territory.

Here’s this week’s hardware chart in full (previous sales data appears in brackets):

• Wii U – 19 312 (9 024)
• 3DS XL – 18 776 (18 374)
• PS Vita – 12 859 (14 070)
• PS3 – 6 922 (7 565)
• PS4 – 6 508 (7 543)
• 3DS – 4 957 (4 850)
• PSP – 1 421 (1 479)
• PS Vita TV – 1 098 (1 142)
• Xbox 360 – 225 (202)
