Crytek and publisher Deep Silver have officially announced Homefront: The Revolution with a debut trailer, a batch of screenshots and the first details on the military shooter, and the follow-up to 2011’s game from THQ.

Homefront: The Revolution is currently in development at Crytek, Nottingham, and has been in the works for three years. According to producer David Stenton, the team has “radically overhauled the first-person shooter formula this time around,” promising a completely non-linear game themed around the art of guerilla warfare.

The Revolution is built on Crytek’s core pillars of first-person shooter design philosophy, says Stenton, namely “emergent gameplay and player freedom in a sandbox world.” This has allowed the team to create their “most ambitious title to date,” he says.

The game is set in ‘Occupied Philadelphia,’ casting you as a freedom fighter who must help the Resistance rise and fight against their ruthless rulers, the Korean People’s Army, and spark the Second American Revolution in the process. To accomplish this hefty goal, you will need to master the art of sabotage, assassination, deception, infiltration and hit-and-run tactics to break down the enemy’s grip on your city.

Homefront: The Revolution will feature four-player co-operative play, too, which means you and three friends will be able to form a ‘Resistance Cell’ to fight the KPA. Watch the debut trailer for the game below and see what other hints and clues you can see about the story and gameplay:
