This week’s Media Create hardware chart finds the two new-gen consoles (PS4 and Wii U) struggling in fourth and fifth place respectively. Total consoles sales are down by 25% week over week and by 18% compared to the same period last year.

The 3DS XL shed the most sales week over week in terms of percentage, selling an alarming 35% less units than last week.

PS4 sales are likely to remain low in the coming weeks due to a dearth of new software releases but at least the Wii U has Mario Kart 8 whizzing onto the platform on May 29th. It will be very interesting to see how this major release impacts Wii U sales because if the console gets a massive boost following its launch then Nintendo knows that a lack of games has been the Wii U’s problem up until now rather than the system itself.

Here’s this week’s hardware chart in full (previous sales data appears in brackets):

• 3DS XL – 18 350 (28 414)
• PS Vita – 12 810 (17 143)
• PS3 – 7 339 (7 684)
• PS4 – 6 792 (8 480)
• Wii U – 6 716 (7 613)
• 3DS – 5 250 (7 529)
• PSP – 1 642 (2 022)
• PS Vita TV – 1 055 (1 351)
