Watch Dogs is the most pre-ordered new IP in Ubisoft’s history, other milestones detailedWritten by: / / No Comments
Anticipation for Ubisoft’s ambitious open-world adventure Watch Dogs is fast approaching a zenith ahead of the game’s May 27th launch. Earlier this week we learned that Watch Dogs has gone gold and now Ubisoft has revealed that the game is the publisher’s most pre-ordered new IP in its history. Furthermore, Ubisoft claims that Watch Dogs has received more pre-orders than any other new IP this year and is also its second-highest pre-ordered game ever.
“These strong pre-orders are a clear indication of players’ anticipation and excitement for Watch Dogs,” said Geoffroy Sardin, Senior VP Sales and Marketing at Ubisoft. “The teams have worked tirelessly to ensure that players will enjoy a top quality game with enormous scope, and we can’t wait to get the game into their hands.”
“We are seeing tremendous excitement for the new Watch Dogs game,” said Michael van den Berg, vice president of Merchandising at GameStop International. “In fact, Watch Dogs is the highest pre-ordered next-generation console game to date. It is on track to be one of the top selling video games across all consoles in 2014.”
These milestones are hardly surprising given that Watch Dogs has been in the public eye since E3 2012 and is releasing across a total of six platforms. History shows that the first year of a new console cycle is also the perfect time to launch a new IP and Watch Dogs is clearly benefiting from Ubisoft’s willingness to support the new-gen consoles with a massive open-world game so early on in the new cycle.
Watch Dogs will be released on May 27th across PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC. A Wii U version is also in development. Head over here for El33tonline’s previous coverage of this ambitious new IP from Ubisoft.
