Bethesda: Reports that Wolfenstein The New Order requires a day one patch to work are “utter nonsense”Written by: / / 7 Comments
Bethesda’s Pete Hines has responded to El33tonline’s queries regarding the functionality of Wolfenstein The New Order without a patch, telling us the reports are “utter nonsense.” Here’s his full reply:
@El33tonline absolutely not. utter nonsense. I've been playing for a week with no patch. There is one, fixes some stuff, not required

[End of Update]
Sometime late yesterday reports began doing the rounds that Wolfenstein: The New Order would require a day one patch for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, weighing in between 5GB and 7.3 GB.
Here are a few Twitter users who have seemed to confirm the news:

@heymarkd The Xbox One version is 7.3GB. I have a feeling this game has great audio and graphics.

Day one patches aren’t uncommon, but if one Twitter user is to be believed, this patch is a crucial requirement if you want to start playing the game at all.
Twitter user Jan Olsen wrote:
@heymarkd I can confirm that neither version is playable with the day one patch. People will be buying a "useless" disc without the patch..

We certainly hope this isn’t true, especially for players who aren’t connected to the internet or are limited by bandwidth caps.
We’ll let you know once we find out more.
Wolfenstein: The New Order is out on May 20th around the world across Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
If you need to find out more about this action-packed first-person shooter, don’t miss El33tonline’s past and continued Wolfenstein coverage for loads of screenshots and additional trailers, as well as our E3 2013 hands-on preview and another look at the game from gamescom 2013.
Don’t forget that if you pre-order The New Order, you’ll gain access to the upcoming beta test for id Software’s next DOOM game. There’s no way to know when that beta will become available, but at least you’ll be ready to get the first peek at what id Software has been working on for the last few years.
