They continually break sales records year after year. They’re played by all demographics, from young children to grown men and women. They’ve spawn a massive merchandising business with enormously popular TV shows and movies. And other than in recent years, they’ve continued to build on core, recognisable gameplay patterns and templates without much in the way of extreme innovation.
With the recent announcement of Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire (based on the 2003 games), we’re keen to ask: Why is Pokemon so popular year after year?
Why do you play Pokemon games and do you play buy each and every entry to the franchise without question? What’s the magical spark that keeps this series so popular?
