Following a very brief teaser trailer over two weeks ago, Disney Interactive, Marvel and developer Avalanche Software have announced Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes, also known as Disney Infinity 2.0.
During a special announcement event, executives and creatives from both Disney Interactive and Marvel were on hand to reveal the content and features of Disney Infinity 2.0, the follow-up to 2013′s toy-based game which featured characters from a range of Disney and Pixar franchises as well as the chance to build your own virtual worlds and create basic games, too.
Disney Infinity 2.0 will be similarly themed, except this time with the inclusion of superheroes, themes and stories from the Marvel universe. Characters from The Avenger’s crew comprising Iron Man, Black Widow, Thor, Captain America, Hulk and Hawkeye will be the first to appear when Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes launches in the ‘Fall’ of this year, with over a dozen more Marvel personalities promised in the future.
Here’s a look at the six debut Marvel character toys:
Disney Interactive was keen to announce that all previous toys, user created toy boxes and the additional ‘power disc’ world augmentation peripherals from the original Disney Infinity will be compatible with Disney Infinity 2.0, while the power base used to pull toy data into the game will also be usable with the new content.
In addition to launching on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, iOS and PC, Disney Infinity 2.0 will also be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with a starter set that includes an Avengers-themed play set, two power discs and three characters namely Thor, Black Widow and Iron Man. Thanks to the inclusion of these characters who can fly and jump great distances (as well as new flying vehicles from the Marvel universe), the levels in the game will be up to four times larger than in the original game, with the chance to climb up buildings and take part in aerial battles.

World building and content creation in Disney Infinity 2.0 will also be getting some attention with the option to essentially generate cities, dungeons and more environments by dropping in virtual builders who will create your worlds for you, before being able to custom edit these worlds as you see fit. Mini-games will also be a focus of user generated content in Disney Infinity 2.0 with templates for tower defence and dungeon crawler games.
