This week’s Media Create hardware chart paints a concerning picture of the Japanese console industry, with total sales down by 12% week over week and by 45% compared to the same period last year when the two 3DS models sold more than all the other consoles combined.

The PS Vita and PS4 lead this week’s pack, with the latter console receiving a welcome sales boost thanks to the release of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

On the other end of the spectrum, Wii U sales continue to dwindle due to a general lack of consumer interest and new software, and the PS Vita TV appears to be a niche product at this point although interest in the microconsole could soon rise as an upcoming firmware update will patch in DualShock 4 and PS4 Remote Play support.

Here’s this week’s hardware chart in full (previous sales data appears in brackets):

• PS Vita – 17 905 (24 078)
• PS4 – 14 396 (13 034)
• 3DS XL – 14 023 (17 291)
• PS3 – 6 468 (7 305)
• 3DS – 5 920 (6 271)
• Wii U – 5 204 (5 512)
• PSP – 2 094 (2 027)
• PS Vita TV – 1 133 (1 220)
