The PS4 has sold 7 million units worldwide

After reaching a major sales benchmark in early March by managing to sell over six million PlayStation 4s, Sony has announced that the PS4 has gone on to sell seven million units around the world as of the beginning of April 2014.


Writing on the official PlayStation blog, Sid Shuman spread the sales news with additional statistics revealing that the seven million unit mark had been reached by April 6th, 2014. According to Shuman, 20.5 million pieces of software have been sold at retail and on the PlayStation Store as of April 13th.

The PS4 is currently available in 72 countries and regions around the world, and users have Shared videos and screenshots 135 million times while 4.9 million Twitch and Ustream broadcasts have been made over the course of the console’s staggered launch starting in mid-November 2013.

Sony Computer Entertainment president and group CEO Andrew House wrote:

“The PS4 journey has just begun, and although we are still facing difficulties keeping up with the strong demand worldwide, we remain steadfast in our commitment to meet the needs of our customers, and surpassing the wildest expectations of gamers by delivering new user experiences that inspire and engage.

We look forward to unveiling many of these experiences to our fans in the coming months.”
