PS4 firmware update 1.70 available soon with ShareFactory video editor and moreWritten by: / / No Comments
We first learned about the features of the upcoming PS4 firmware update 1.70 just under a month ago with scant but promising details on some kind of video editing software, the option to toggle HDCP on and off, and a few other interesting curiosities.
Today, Sony Computer Entertainment’s Scott McCarthy has further outlined some of the features we can expect in PS4 firmware update 1.70, including something called ‘ShareFactory.’
So what is ShareFactory? It’s essentially a suite of tools that aims to let you easily and effectively stitch together different captured game videos to which you can then set your own music, apply different transition effects and filters, and even add your own commentary. You can then share your video to Facebook or export it to a USB drive so you share it with even more people – a new feature with the upcoming 1.70 firmware update.
“Other PS4 Share enhancements include the ability to change the recording time of your gameplay to shorter increments, the ability to change who you share your clips with on the Share screen, and the removal of default saves for screenshots and video clips.
“In addition to these Share enhancements, the 1.70 update will allow you switch off HDCP, enabling you to capture video directly from your HDMI output so you can record and share longer clips of your gameplay sessions – a feature I know many of you have been waiting for.”

In addition, PS4 firmware update 1.70 will aim to make it easier and faster for you to download games that you pre-order on the PlayStation Store up to four days ahead of the game’s launch so that game is ready to play the second it’s released to the world.
When can we expect firmware update 1.70 to drop? Rumours point to the end of April, but we’ll be sure to get official confirmation from Sony in the coming weeks.
Will you be making use of ShareFactory, and the loosening of the HDCP restriction?
