DrinkBox Studios has become one of Canada’s most successful and promising indie outfits after releasing the two Tales from Space games and Guacamelee!. The studio’s latest project is a touch-screen affair for mobile devices called Severed and is still in the early design phase, with DrinkBox aiming for a 2015 release.

Described as a cross between Mega Man, Infinity Blade, and Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out, Severed is a nonlinear dungeon crawler that puts you in the role of a female warrior who wakes up to find that she’s missing part of her arm. During your adventure you’ll use gesture-based controls to explore an open world and fight enemies using both physical attacks and magic spells. As the game’s name implies, you can chop off enemies’ and bosses’ body parts and attach them to yourself – allowing you to gain new abilities which are required to reach certain areas in Severed’s nonlinear world.

Here’s a concept video for the game along with some early concept art:

DrinkBox says that it hasn’t ruled out platforms other than mobile devices yet since the game is still in such an early phase of development. We’ll bring you more on this promising title as more Severed details come to light.
