H33rsay: The mysterious Assassin’s Creed Comet gets new detailsWritten by: / / 2 Comments
H33rsay is El33tonline’s round-up of game industry rumours and speculation where we have looks at unconfirmed and unannounced pieces of news emerging from anonymous tipsters, information leaks and generally dubious sources. It may not all be true, but it’s still fun to talk about!
Earlier this week we made mention of something called ‘Assassin’s Creed Comet,’ a (by now) common codename for what is widely believed to be the 2014 edition of Assassin’s Creed on previous generation consoles like Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, due to release alongside the confirmed Assassin’s Creed: Unity on new generation consoles this year.
We spoke about Assassin’s Creed Comet in the most skeptical terms – a photo of a monitor displaying an in-progress Ubisoft press release can easily be faked, while the contents of the text were also questionable. According to a new report at French website GameBlog, though, we’ve got some new details on this supposed, rumoured and highly mysterious game. But are they real?
Assassin’s Creed Comet Gets New Details
Gameblog reports that Assassin’s Creed Comet takes place circa 1758 and will star Shay, a sailor who apparently betrays the captain of the ship he previously served on during its voyage over the Atlantic Ocean, which means the game will include the ship building and gameplay from Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. A visit to New York of the time period is also on the cards while previous characters including Haytham Kenway and Adewalé will make appearances.
The mention of Shay as the key protagonist is different to the previous rumour which mentions a main character named ‘Eseosa,’ the grandson of Adelwale, who will seek the guidance of Connor from Assassin’s Creed III. Like Connor, however, Eseosa might be another more Westernised name for Shay.
More details on Gameblog’s reports of Assassin’s Creed Comet can be found with a translation of the text over here, which seems much more detailed and legitimate than the previous Comet rumours, which have since been denied by the supposed comment poster on Ubisoft’s blog, UK forum manager ‘Mr_Shade.’
The existence of the game, however, has not been denied.
Do you think we’ll see an announcement of Assassin’s Creed Comet any time soon? Would you want to play another game set in the time period of Assassin’s Creed III?
