The news was announced on the official Guitar Hero Facebook page, as Activision revealed that “the downloadable songs for the Guitar Hero, DJ Hero and Band Hero games, and the Guitar Hero mobile game will no longer be available after March 31, 2014.”

“The Guitar Hero servers will stay online,” the statement continued, “and any previously purchased downloadable content is unaffected by this change.”

To mark the occasion, and to thank the community for its support of the Guitar Hero franchise for the past nine years, Activision will be discounting select songs and tracks by 50% on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii, while the mobile version of the game will also be discounted on iTunes until the end of March.

Are there still songs in the Guitar Hero catalogue that you’ve been keen to buy or have you long since packed away the plastic instruments?
