SimCity Offline patch in final testing, coming “very soon” says MaxisWritten by: / / 1 Comment
EA and developer Maxis will be making the impossible possible “very soon,” according to a tweet by studio manager Patrick Buechner, because the next big update for SimCity – the patch that adds an offline mode to the city building simulator – is currently in final testing before release.
The official SimCity Twitter account affirmed that Update 10, the patch SimCity fans have been waiting for, is on the way:

EA and Maxis announced the existence of Update 10 earlier this year, saying that work on the patch had been on-going for several months and will, when released, allow players to enjoy SimCity in a new singleplayer mode to play the game offline without the need for an internet connection. ” And because your saved games in this mode are stored locally,” Buechner wrote at the time, “you can save and load to your heart’s content.
Mod support is also planned, with Buechner writing that modders will now be able to “make modifications to the game and its components without compromising the integrity of the Online game,” with modding tutorials to be released in the future.
The online version of SimCity, meanwhile, will remain with multiplayer, the Global Market and Leaderboards all available, while pre-existing saved cities and regions will still be accessible online.
Will you be tempted back into playing SimCity with Update 10, or have you been playing since release last year?
