The original Crazy Taxi burst onto the scene in 1999 as a fast-paced arcade title with a killer soundtrack from the likes of The Offspring and Bad Religion, and its immense popularity has ensured that it’s been ported to no less than eight other platforms over the past fourteen years.

Now Sega has announced that a new game in the series called Crazy Taxi: City Rush is “coming soon” to iOS and Android devices. Developed by Crazy Taxi creator Kenji Kanno, the game is a free-to-play title featuring a one-touch control scheme, customisable cabs and an all-new city setting.

“I’m very excited to finally be able to share with you the first news of Crazy Taxi: City Rush,” said Kanno. “We are delivering a truly fun game that captures everything our fans love about the original and infusing it with several new features to create an even more fantastic and memorable experience.”

To celebrate the new game’s announcement, the mobile version of Crazy Taxi is currently free for a limited period on the iOS App Store and Google Play.

Here’s the first batch of screens for Crazy Taxi: City Rush along with a teaser trailer for this upcoming mobile racer:
