A future Xbox One firmware update will add external hard drive support, more features plannedWritten by: / / 2 Comments
Despite the fact that latest (and what Microsoft is calling the most significant) firmware update for Xbox One has begun rolling out around the world today, the system software team isn’t resting on its laurels because Xbox chief product officer Marc Whitten has outlined a few features planned for future updates, too.
In the announcement post on Xbox Wire discussing the comprehensive list of feature additions and improvements now available on Xbox One with the March update, Whitten revealed that support for external hard drive storage is on the list of features coming to the console in the future, as well as friends notification improvements – here’s Whitten:
“We value all of the feedback we’re getting from you. Keep it coming! We are listening. We know external hard drive storage is another big one on your list. It’s on our list too. We’re working on that for a future update and will keep you posted. We’re also working on friends notification improvements and experimenting with how to make that better.
“Just as we do with Xbox 360, we’ll be continuing regular updates to Xbox One – some will be big, like this March update, and some will be smaller. Big or small, we’re committed to delivering continuous innovation through system updates like this one. Thanks for your feedback.”
Will the addition of support for external hard drives be of use to you or is the current standard of 500GB for new generation consoles enough storage space for you?
