On February 18th Sony announced that PlayStation 4 sales had surpassed 5.3 million units worldwide. Now, exactly two weeks later, the platform holder has revealed that the console has sold over 6 million units globally following its Japanese launch on February 22nd. PS4 sales in Japan are up to 370 000 units following the console’s opening weekend tally of 322 083 units in the region.
In a press release Sony confirmed that the PS4 is now available in 57 countries and software sales (both boxed and digital) currently stand at 13.7 million units worldwide. In addition, more than 50% of all PS4 users are PlayStation Plus members and as of March 2nd, Sony’s official PlayStation App had been downloaded over 3.6 million times. PS4 users are also embracing the console’s gameplay sharing and streaming functionality, with over 100 million images and videos having been shared since launch along with more than 3.6 million Twitch and Ustream broadcasts.
