H33rsay: Call of Duty 2014 is Modern Warfare, and other rumours from a reputed YouTube tipsterWritten by: / / No Comments
H33rsay is El33tonline’s round-up of game industry rumours and speculation where we have looks at unconfirmed and unannounced pieces of news emerging from anonymous tipsters, information leaks and generally dubious sources. It may not all be true, but it’s still fun to talk about!
It’s a rumour we’ve heard before, with supposed details on how 2014’s edition of Call of Duty may tie into the events of previous Modern Warfare games (and how it could follow up on the ending of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3), but fresh reports on the next Call of Duty game have appeared from a reputed and previously reliable YouTube tipster, Drift0r.
Drift0r was responsible for leaking details of Call of Duty: Ghosts, who revealed the game’s name and a swathe of gameplay details well ahead of Ghosts’ formal announcement. Those details came from a reliable source inside what he calls the ‘Call of Duty machine,’ but this time he’s received details from another source that he hasn’t had contact with before.
The rumoured details relate to what we’ve previously called ‘Call of Duty 2014,’ currently confirmed to be in development at Sledgehammer Games with work on the game led on new generation consoles to ensure a step up on features for the series.
In a video containing footage from a Call of Duty: Ghosts, Drift0r speaks about being approached by a new source who provided him with assets and gameplay taken from Call of Duty 2014, which is now believed to be a Modern Warfare game – not necessarily Modern Warfare 4, but a new entry to the series. Under conditions of extreme secrecy, Drift0r speaks about how the assets that he saw seemed “somewhat futuristic” which leads him to believe that it’s not set in the past or during modern times – a ‘day after tomorrow’ situation,’ if you will, with logical progressions on current technology and weaponry (similar to Black Ops 2).
Drift0r also speaks about a few technological advances as far as visuals are concerned, with reflections, dynamic lighting systems in place and glimpses of physics model, while the first-person character had some sort of arm brace (again, similar to Black Ops 2), with talk of an “extremely large” and detailed map that seems very vertical in nature, too.
Drift0r also makes mention of something called ‘Black Smith,’ which he believes is simply a code name for Call of Duty 2014, while he threads the needle on why he thinks that the recent round of personalisation packs for Call of Duty: Ghosts and Black Ops 2 (featuring Modern Warfare characters) might point to the release of a new Modern Warfare in the future.
There are a few other snippets of details in the video that may mean more to hardcore Call of Duty fans, so watch below and let us know if there’s anything of major importance to the Call of Duty series that you can suss out:
