Xbox One March update includes Dolby Digital optical out supportWritten by: / / 1 Comment
Xbox One users can look forward to a range of new features following the console’s upcoming system update expected to arrive in time for Titanfall’s North American release on March 11th. These include improvements to the Xbox One’s Party Chat system and friends list as well as the long-awaited option to broadcast gameplay via Twitch.
Another recently confirmed feature of the new firmware is the ability to output Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound over an optical audio cable via bitstream. The Xbox One’s optical out port currently only supports two-channel stereo sound – a limitation that Microsoft said was due to a “scheduling issue” when the company revealed that Dolby Digital support wouldn’t be ready in time for the console’s launch last November.
The introduction of Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound via the Xbox One’s optical audio port will make the console compatible with a range of third-party surround sound headsets and optical-only home cinema setups.
