This week’s Media Create hardware chart sees the PlayStation 4 touch down in its home territory more than three months after landing in North America. Sony’s console shifted 309 154 units during its first two days on sale which is slightly lower than Famitsu reported earlier this week. The PS4′s performance puts it well ahead of the PS3 which sold 88 443 units during its first two days of availability in Japan, and slightly in front of the Wii U which shifted 308 570 units during its first full week on sale in the region.

Despite the PS4′s recent introduction, the total number of consoles sold during 2014 in Japan is still 15% lower than it was during the same period in 2013. This seems to suggest that the Japanese console market is steadily shrinking as more and more games migrate to smartphones and other smart devices.

Here’s this week’s hardware chart in full (previous sales data appears in brackets):

• PS4 – 309 154
• 3DS XL – 22 253 (27 650)
• PS Vita – 16 857 (17 081)
• PS3 – 9 983 (10 226)
• 3DS – 9 898 (12 066)
• Wii U – 8 407 (8 782)
• PSP – 3 171 (2 944)
• PS Vita TV – 1 383 (1 267)
• Xbox 360 – 241 (256)
