Report: PS4 shifts 322 083 units in Japan during opening weekendWritten by: / / No Comments
It’s no secret that the PlayStation 4 is selling like hot cakes in most parts of the world, with over 5.3 million consoles sold as of February 18th. This past Saturday the PS4 went on sale in Japan and Famitsu reports that 322 083 units were sold during the console’s opening weekend out of a 350k first shipment. In comparison, the PS3 shifted 88 443 units during its first two days on sale in Japan while the Wii U sold 308 570 units during its first week of availability in the region.
The PS4′s opening weekend sales in Japan will most likely take the console’s worldwide tally higher than the Wii U’s – making Sony’s new home console the best-selling eighth generation system despite launching a year later than the Wii U.
Do you think home consoles still have a chance to dominate in Japan or will smartphones and handhelds always reign supreme in the region? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
