Ouya-exclusive Towerfall ascends to PS4 and PC in MarchWritten by: / / 2 Comments
The game that has in the past been hailed as the sole (very good) reason to own the diminutive Ouya console, Towerfall, will be arriving on PlayStation 4 and PC in March, developer Matt Thorson recently announced, only this time in the form of the enhanced Towerfall Ascension.
The four-player competitive multiplayer game will become available on PC on March 11th and on the North American PlayStation Store starting on the same date, with a European release window to be announced soon. But what, exactly, is Towerfall Ascension?
Described simply, Thorson explains that Towerfall Ascension is “a 4-player archery combat platformer” and is strictly a local multiplayer game only, which means you’ll need to gather three friends together on your couch to play on a single screen. “You’ll get plenty of chaos, close calls, and comebacks,” promises Thorson, and from what we’ve heard of the game since its debut on Ouya, this claim definitely checks out.
In Ascension on PS4 and PC, however, there will be fifty new Versus arenas, with a total of 120 levels along with “a bunch of new variants to customize your matches with,” with new power-ups included, too. Thorson’s favourite power-up? “[Drill] arrows that burrow through walls.” Sounds devious.
Towerfall Ascension will also add a solo or two-player co-operative game type called ‘Quest’ mode. Thorson explains:
“It’s an arena mode where monsters spawn from portals as you defend yourself using the same skills you’ve honed in Versus mode. Quest mode is an interesting new take on the same core mechanics, and adds a bunch of new content to explore even when you don’t have three friends around.”
