Activision expects Destiny to become “best-selling new videogame IP in history”Written by: / / 7 Comments
The start of a new console generation is always an exciting time as publishers are more likely to support new IP during this period. You only have to look at upcoming games like Titanfall, The Order: 1886, and Destiny to spot this trend and only time will tell which of these goes on to taste the sweetest success.
With this in mind, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick recently told investors during an earnings call that the publisher expects its next “billion dollar franchise”, Destiny, to become the “best-selling new videogame IP in history.”
Unlike many other new IPs releasing this year, Bungie’s shared-world shooter is being developed for four major platforms (PS3, Xbox 360, PS3 and PS4) which have combined hardware sales of around 170 million units. That’s a lot of people to market Destiny to, and you can be sure that Activision will spare no expense ensuring that the game is front and centre in consumers’ minds come September.
