It’s another slow week for hardware sales on the latest Media Create chart. Overall console sales are down by 36% compared to the same period last year with lower 3DS sales being the main culprit for this sorry state of affairs.

The good news for PS Vita fans is that the handheld has proved resilient during these tough times and actually managed to sell 213% more than it did during the same period last year. This should encourage Japanese developers to invest more in the console and some of these resulting games will undoubtedly trickle down to those of us in the West.

Wii U sales continue to dwindle despite the physical release of Wii Fit U on February 1st. It seems like Nintendo president Satoru Iwata was counting on this game drastically boosting Wii U sales but based on its performance so far this is unlikely to be the case.

Here’s this week’s hardware chart in full (previous sales data appears in brackets):

• 3DS XL – 26 042 (26 484)
• PS Vita – 20 457 (21 498)
• PS3 – 14 100 (13 360)
• 3DS – 11 420 (11 745)
• Wii U – 8 072 (8 490)
• PSP – 3 366 (3 428)
• PS Vita TV – 1 789 (1 792)
