This week’s Media Create hardware chart is once again a sorry sight, with overall sales down by 34% compared to the same period last year. Both 3DS systems appear to have reached their peak and are now on a downward spiral so we may see Nintendo introducing either the 2DS or a new 3DS model in Japan over the coming months.

Meanwhile the PS Vita continues to impress with consistent sales which have managed to stay above 20 000 units per week since the beginning of the new year. PS Vita sales are up by 221% compared to the same period last year so Sony clearly adopted a good strategy by cutting the price of the handheld last February and then introducing the PS Vita 2000 in October.

Here’s this week’s hardware chart in full (previous sales data appears in brackets):

• 3DS XL – 26 484 (32 393)
• PS Vita – 21 498 (24 755)
• PS3 – 13 360 (13 243)
• 3DS – 11 745 (15 045)
• Wii U – 8 490 (11 443)
• PSP – 3 428 (4 024)
• PS Vita TV – 1 792 (2 208)
• Xbox 360 – 260 (273)
