The Sly Cooper series rose to prominence during the PlayStation 2 era when the 3D platformer was one of the most popular genres around. Published by Sony Computer Entertainment and developed by inFamous studio Sucker Punch Productions, Sly Cooper introduced PlayStation fans to the titular orphaned raccoon thief and his partners in crime Bentley Turtle and Murray Hippo.
Now Blockade Entertainment, Rainmaker Entertainment and writer/director Kevin Munroe (TMNT, Dylan Dog: Dead of Night) have teamed up to bring Sly Cooper to the silver screen. Planned for release in 2016, the Sly Cooper film will be a CG affair available to watch in 3D for those moviegoers who want a greater level of immersion.
Here’s the film’s spoiler-free synopsis from the PlayStation Blog along with its debut trailer:
“In the film, Sly learns of his birth family’s secret legacy; that he comes from a long line of talented and international thieves. Endowed with this knowledge, Sly and his friends are catapulted into a global adventure as they race to reassemble pieces of an ancient book holding The Cooper Clan’s family secrets before it can fall into the hands of Clockwerk – an evil Russian metallic owl bent on ending the Cooper family line. From romantic Parisian backdrops to the lush mountains of China, gritty film noir meets bright, colorful graphic novels in this origin story of the world’s greatest thief-turned-hero.”
