In-depth Middle-earth Shadow of Mordor walkthrough slays its way to the top

A little bit of Batman, a little bit of Assassin’s Creed and a whole lot of fantasy is what you’ll find in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, the next Lord of the Rings themed action game from Warner Bros. Interactive and Monolith, and the pair recently released an in-depth narrated walkthrough video to demonstrate some of the game’s more unique features.

While combat is very reminiscent of something out of the Arkhamverse Batman games, with environment traversal more akin to Darksiders II and Ubisoft’s open-world Assassin’s Creed games, Shadows of Mordor will employ an interesting ‘Nemesis’ system where key enemies along your journey will remember you, and should they escape you with their life, react accordingly further down the story.

Using the power of the Wraith (an unknown entity that mysteriously brings protagonist Talion back to life following an attack on his family), you’re also able to use your enemies to further your own ambitions, with the option to put them to work as a spy or get them to provide important information on future targets and objectives.

You can see how just one instance of the Nemesis system plays out in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor in the brutal eight-minute walkthrough video below:
