December 2013 NPD: Sony responds claiming ‘cumulative sales’ leadershipWritten by: / / No Comments
On the back of The NPD Group’s sales report for the month of December 2013 in the US, Sony has responded to the data with its own statement.
While Microsoft’s Xbox One and Xbox 360 were able to claim the top-selling home console status for the month of December 2013 in the US, Sony Computer Entertainment isn’t particularly bothered as senior director of corporate communications, Dan Race, responded in a statement:
“According to the latest NPD report, PlayStation 4 remains the cumulative leader for next gen console sales in the US since the launch on November 15,” wrote Race. “We sold every PS4 available at retail in the US and were out of stock in December due to overwhelming consumer demand.
“With more than 4.2 million PS4 systems sold worldwide, it’s clear that the PS4′s gaming and entertainment features are resonating with large audiences and we’re doing our best to provide additional inventory in all of the 53 countries where it’s available.”
Do you think it was important for Sony to have stomped its authority on December sales to gain a mental advantage over Microsoft, or will the company be content with having sold the most new generaton consoles overall over the last two months?
