Beyond: Two Souls sales topped 1 million in 2013Written by: / / 4 Comments
Heavy Rain proved that there was a market for non-linear adventure games emphasising player choice by selling over two million copies within its first two years of release. Now French developer Quantic Dream has revealed that its latest PS3 exclusive, Beyond: Two Souls, sold more than one million copies during 2013 despite receiving mixed reviews which were on average 17% lower than Heavy Rain according to each game’s respective Metacritic and GameRankings score.
Beyond: Two Souls’ producer Guillaume de Fondaumière also noted on Twitter that the game sold 70 088 copies in France during 2013, which was more than Heavy Rain managed during its first 12 weeks in stores.
Quantic Dream’s next game looks likely to be a PS4 exclusive leveraging the graphical horsepower of the console to achieve near photorealistic visuals. In June last year the developer gave us a glimpse of its next-gen engine with a tech demo called The Dark Sorcerer.
Do you think Beyond: Two Souls was a fitting follow-up to Heavy Rain or was it a step backwards for Quantic Dream? Let us know in the comments.
