In just 30 days, PS4 outsold Xbox 360 in the UK in 2013, but 3DS reigned supremeWritten by: / / No Comments
We’ve already heard from Sony Computer Entertainment about how the PlayStation 4 was able to sell 4.2 million units worldwide before 2013 was over, and sales tracking firm Chart Track has already let us know that the console shifted 530 000 units in the UK in 2013, but now MCV is reporting that Sony’s machine was able to outpace Microsoft’s annual Xbox 360 sales in 2013 by a few thousand units.
While the Xbox 360 had the full complement of 365 days to rack up unit sales, PS4 achieved its feat in just thirty days helping it to become the fastest-selling home console in the UK in 2013. Xbox One sales, on the other hand, reached 364 000 units but Nintendo’s 3DS reigned supreme at the top of the hardware sales chart for the year.
PlayStation UK’s Fergal Gara commented on the PS4’s sales success:
“We are delighted with the very strong sales of PS4 to date. Since we unveiled the console, gamers have shown huge interest in the PS4. Our focus now is rebuilding stock levels so those have not been able to get a PS4 can finally experience the next-gen. I’d like to thank the gamers, our retail and publishing partners who played a big part in making this success possible.”
Do you think the sales pace set by Sony will continue into 2014? Will Nintendo’s handheld continue to outstrip the home consoles this year?
