PS4 has so far outsold Xbox One in the UK by over 166 000 unitsWritten by: / / 2 Comments
After launching on November 22nd and November 29th respectively, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 have racked up impressive sales numbers in the UK that outpace any console launch before them, with the PS4 in particular becoming the fastest-selling console in the region’s history.
According to sales tracking firm Chart Track and the Entertainment Retailers Association (ERA), the PS4 has sold 530 000 units since launch while Xbox One has made its way into 364 000 homes in the UK – a difference of 166 000 units – generating £181.8 million and £144.5 million respectively.
ERA director general, Kim Bayley, wrote:
“Games continues to deliver digital sales strongly, but it was disappointing that Xbox One and PS4 came so late in 2013 and then huge demand meant stock sold out quickly. Retailers will be working hard in 2014 to maintain the sales momentum of these two great new pieces of kit.”
What do you make of these sales numbers? Do you think they were drastically affected by low stock in the region and could Sony and Microsoft have sold more if more units were available?
