El33t’s Pre-W33kend Post: A solemn start to a sunny break

Written by: / / 13 Comments

Our weekend will begin as we pay tribute to the towering achievements, difficult sacrifices and inspirational words of a legendary leader, but as we remember Nelson Mandela we will also take care not to get too solemn and sombre as we also celebrate a life well lived.

Find out what members of El33tonline will be spending their time on this weekend below, and be sure to let us know about the games you’ll be playing and celebrations you’ll be indulging in, too.

“This is truly amazing. I just can’t believe it is w33kend again. I had a bit of a rough week, so the weekend came just in time.

I will be playing the usual games this weekend with a Torchlight 2 lighting up the way… OK, I will be playing Torchlight 2. Plus I got some AC Pirates to play, a really awesome game. I will also be finishing off some writing and might spend some time building on my F1 car model. I have to also try and get some movie watching going and some running. Need to get ready.

Have a awesome el33t w33kend and make sure you have lots of epic fun.”

“I’m hoping for lots of sunshine this weekend as my plans include some tennis, braaing and beaching. It will be great to spend some time with family and friends over the break, and in-between the socialising I’m keen to watch the cricket versus India on Sunday and play some Gran Turismo 6.

I’ll also be remembering Madiba’s lessons and legacy in the wake of his passing. He was the miracle South Africa needed to survive in difficult times. I still remember practising emergency drills at primary school around 1994 because some people were anticipating civil war. Thanks to Madiba that didn’t happen.

As always, have a good one p33ps!”

“Tomorrow I am playing in the Settlers of Catan tournament at The Unseen Shoppe (pull in if you’re interested). Sunday is time with the future super heroes – can’t wait. My new Skylanders Swap Force characters arrived during the week so we’ll be playing a lot of that I think.

Everyone have a good one.”

“Advisory Alert: There are three weeks until Christmas! There are 51 weeks until Black Friday!

Wow, what a week it has been. Looking forward to coming home and spending some catch-up quality time with my family tonight! I’ve been in Cape Town for a conference this whole week and that marks the first time in my life that I’ve spent a full 24 hours away from my children.

Gaming-wise, I have Angry Birds: Star Wars to review which I’ll get onto at the tail-end of the weekend once I’ve had sufficient catch-up time with my wife and kids.

As an aside, for anyone that’s interested in South Africa’s computing technology, I have to say that the future is looking great for South Africa. Not only are we the reigning world champions for the ISC High Performance Computing (a truly amazing feat considering we don’t have the support, knowledgebase or skills that the US, China, Germany, EU etc. have) but we are soon going to have the biggest, fastest, most powerful radio astronomy computer system in the world (we’re talking one million times faster, requiring a 1000Tb/s network, and storing exabytes of data). Things are going to be great for tech fiends in this country.

On a more somber note, R.I.P. Madiba. You were and are an icon of peace, forgiveness, and hope. Your legacy and memory will live no forever and although your powerful presence remains etched in our hearts and minds, you will be sorely missed.”

“With something of a solemn start to the weekend as South Africa and the world remember a legend, the sun is shining here in Durban and I’d like to take every opportunity I can to soak up some rays and prepare for the final weeks of December, with a little game time planned as well before the launch of the PS4 in the country next week.

I hope you all have a great weekend while spending a few moments of thought on Nelson Mandela, his family and the sacrifices he made to improve the world.”

What have you got planned for the weekend, folks? Which games will be started, continued and completed?
