What is Lara Croft: Reflections? It can’t be a prequel, surely.Written by: / / 19 Comments
What is Lara Croft: Reflections?
Judging by the title alone, wouldn’t your mind start racing about the possibilities for a potential prequel game in the Tomb Raider universe starring our intrepid explorer, Lara Croft, where we finally get to discover her origins as a top-notch archaeologist and adventure seeker?
But… we’ve already seen that. Here in 2013, in fact.
What about a game set further down the Tomb Raider timeline, where Lara Croft recounts her past adventures and ‘reflects’ on her prior journeys? Well… we’ve sort of already seen that in previous Tomb Raider games, haven’t we? Not handled by current developer, Crystal Dynamics, but still.
So we put the question to you again: What is Lara Croft: Reflections?
At the moment, and as far as we know, it’s nothing more than a recent trademark filed by Square Enix. It’s the second time the filing has appeared and includes ‘computer game software’ and other entertainment products in the list of goods that the name can cover.
The news follows a confirmation by Square Enix that ‘something’ related to Tomb Raider will be announced in early December, most likely during this year’s Spike TV VGX (nee Video Game Awards), tied into more reports surrounding a product called ‘Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition,’ a supposed next-gen version of 2013′s Tomb Raider with all the trimmings.
What do you think Lara Croft: Reflections might be?
Pay special attention to the use of ‘Lara Croft’ as opposed to ‘Tomb Raider’ in the title, and remember that the last game to use that naming convention was the excellent top-down action game, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. Do you think there’s a connection? We hope so.
