As revealed during the publisher’s quarterly financial results and investor call yesterday, EA and EA Sports currently has a FIFA World Cup title in development to tie in with 2014′s football/soccer world cup in Brazil.
Transcribed by SeekingAlpha, EA CEO Andrew Wilson said during the investor call:
“We are refining our focus on our biggest brands and great new IP in development, including The Sims 4, EA SPORTS UFC, FIFA World Cup and Dragon Age: Inquisition.”
While the revelation of a new FIFA World Cup game isn’t news in itself, it is the first we’ve heard of the 2014 edition of the title, and as it stands no-one is quite sure if this content will be an additional add-on for FIFA 14, or an entirely new game as in previous years.
The precedent for a digital add-on was set last year with the UEFA Euro 2012 add-on for FIFA 12, so instead of going through two new release cycles in 2014 (with FIFA 15 and 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil), EA and EA Sports might opt to follow the pair’s successful digital strategy and simply release the world cup content online.
What do you think will happen? Will the FIFA World Cup game be released as a full physical product or would you prefer to simply purchase and download the extra content for FIFA 14?
