It’s a complaint most often levied at yearly sports titles and annualised sequels, but it can also come up when discussing sequels to otherwise successful and enjoyable titles: “This game is too similar to the last one!”
In the case of Batman: Arkham Origins, despite the gameplay remaining fun throughout and the successful Arkham-verse formula being repeated, the same complaint arose.
Where do you stand on the debate? If a game is still fun and well put together, but is extremely similar to the last game (that you also happened to enjoy), is that a problem? Does the situation change when discussing sports games that, some would argue, only need a roster change and a few extra features as DLC from year to year?
Does your enjoyment of a game deteriorate if it’s too similar to something else, even if it’s still an excellent game?
