At Microsoft’s E3 2013 press conference the company announced an experimental initiative known as ‘Games With Gold,’ a programme that aims to give Xbox LIVE Gold members at least two games a month at no additional charge, from full downloadable retail games to smaller Xbox LIVE Arcade titles.
So far, the programme has been met with a very mixed response as Microsoft has given its Gold members titles including Halo 3, Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes, Rainbox Six Vegas, Magic 2013, Defense Grid: Awakening, Assassin’s Creed II and Dead Rising 2 – games that are up to four years old at the high end.
Microsoft, on the other hand, says that according to a recent survey, “97 percent of participating members have given their stamp of approval for Games with Gold,” with “more than 120 million hours played with Games with Gold titles,” which represents something of a disparity between online reactions and Microsoft’s own data.
Regardless, Microsoft has today made the announcement that Games With Gold will continue past the originally intended test period of 2013, and will become an on-going benefit to Xbox LIVE Gold members on Xbox 360.
Good news for Xbox 360 owners or would you prefer some other reward for your years of Xbox LIVE Gold membership? Which games do you hope to arrive through Xbox LIVE as part of the programme in the future?
