A question on many PlayStation fans’ minds over the past few months has been whether or not their current headset will work on the PS4. Now Game Informer reports that a Sony representative has confirmed that the chat functionality of existing PS3-compatible headsets will not work when the console launches next month.
Sony-branded PS3 headsets will only be supported on PS4 after a future system update, as will third-party headsets which rely on USB for chat. Meanwhile, the chat functionality of existing Bluetooth headsets will not work at all on the PS4 – even after the aforementioned firmware update.
Headsets which use digital optical for game audio can be used as headphones on the PS4 from day one but their chat functionality will only work after the console’s system software has been patched.
