Sony looking for right time to re-introduce The Last Guardian, game currently being re-engineeredWritten by: / / No Comments
Despite being announced all the way back in 2009, Team Ico’s third title The Last Guardian has been missing in action since early 2011. However, Sony insists that development on the game continues and the company’s President of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, recently provided GamesIndustry.biz with an update on this frustratingly intangible title.
During an interview with the website Yoshida stated that Sony is waiting for the right moment to re-introduce the game, saying:
“So, we’re waiting for the right time to re-introduce The Last Guardian in an appropriate way. I can’t… Well, the game is in development, and it’s well staffed, and Ueda-san is here, working – even though he’s not a Sony employee, he’s dedicated to the product. But we’re not ready to update yet.”
Yoshida also provided some new supporting evidence for rumours that The Last Guardian is now a PS4 exclusive, stating:
“The game has never stopped – the team has always been here. They’re going through the re-engineering of the game, so the team size is smaller, because it’s more engineering focused right now.”
The big question now becomes: Is the game complete on a content level, or does it need to be re-engineered (potentially for PS4) before new content can be created? If the answer is the latter option then we may have a couple more years to wait before The Last Guardian sees the light of day.
