For those players still enjoying the extremely intense multiplayer matches of The Last of Us (while attempting to recruit more virtual helpers to your cause), Naughty Dog has good news for you: You’ll soon be able to play across more maps in October, with singleplayer and new multiplayer content promised for next year.
Arriving on October 15th in North America and October 16th in European territories, the Abandoned Territories Map Pack includes four new arenas, namely Suburbs (with a “random, dynamic dust storm”), Bus Depot (“a layered map of an overgrown urban environment with wild giraffes in the background”), Hometown (“a dark, eerie, moonlit, environment – the perfect setting for some serious stealth”) and Bookstore (“a stacked, bi-level layout adding a highly unique dose of vertical gameplay”).
Then, from “around the December-January timeframe,” The Last of Us players can expect to get the first piece of singleplayer content which features “an ambitious story with strong ties into the narrative.” For those worried about this kind of content being ‘cut out’ of the original shipping game, Naughty Dog says that the team has “just wrapped up a long casting process for a new character, and we’re starting our performance capture shoot next week.”
Lastly, the third DLC pack (also included in the game’s season pass) will be multiplayer focussed and due for release in the first half of 2014. “We’ll start to reveal more information and a release timeframe as soon as we’ve worked out those details,” says Naughty Dog.

The developer has also revealed additional items to be included with the purchase of a season pass for The Last of Us, with over 60 new head items “ranging from a Nightmare Mask to a Pigskin Hat.” If you’re still interested in getting the season pass, it’s available now for $19.99 / €19.99 on the PlayStation Store, netting you a 75% saving over if you bought all of the DLC individually.
Are you still playing The Last of Us multiplayer, or wrapping up the story for the first (or second / third / fourth) time? Who will be getting the additional content this year and next?
