The general consensus surrounding Blizzard’s digital collectible card game, Hearthstone, is that it’s incredibly fun, polished and addictive, which is expected from the StarCraft and Warcraft developer.
In a recent blog post, however, and in order to ensure the game continues to be fun to play, Blizzard has announced its intention to follow through with an intended account wipe across all players currently participating in the beta, resetting information and clearing all progress thus far.
“We built this into our plan as we knew going into the beta that a number of cards were likely to emerge as overpowered and we also knew that we‘d make significant adjustments to the reward system and overall game progression,” Blizzard writes.
“So, as part of the effort to level the playing field and also prepare our players’ accounts for the release version of our progression system,” the post continues, “we made the decision to schedule a one-time wipe of all beta participant accounts.”
No exact date for the account wipe has yet been announced, but Blizzard has published a list of frequently asked questions regarding the process including what will happen if you’ve already spent real money (Hint: Don’t worry about it), and if there will be future wipes (no plans for that, no) and more.
