Now that his talents for helping wrap up the development of a game have been expended on Bioshock Infinite, and after a long stint at Epic Games working on Gears of War, Rod Fergusson will be embarking upon a new adventure with 2K Games.
While news is currently thin on the ground, Fergusson himself announced that he will be be “launching a new studio for 2K” with an “exciting new project” to get things started. Fergusson promises that details will be arriving soon, but that’s all we know for now. In addition, the new studio will be located in the Bay Area of San Francisco, California… OK, now that’s all we know for now.
Fergusson previously worked at Epic Games for seven years as producer and director on the Gears of War series, before joining Irrational Games in August of 2012 to help the game reach completion at the highest level of quality it possibly could, even forcing a delay of the game for polish reasons.
Fergusson then left Irrational in April this year once his work was complete but must have enjoyed working with 2K Games enough (and vice versa) to be forming an entirely new studio with the publisher.
What could Fergusson and 2K possibly be working on in San Francisco?
As reported by Polygon, there are already two 2K studios in the Bay Area, namely 2K Marin (The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, Bioshock 2) and Visual Concepts (MLB 2K, NBA 2K), so there’s a good pool of talent in the region to draw from.
