Last year UK-based indie developer FuturLab breathed new life into the top-down space shooter genre with the PlayStation minis title Velocity, and now the studio looks set to expand this beloved genre even further with Velocity 2X.
The sequel is being developed for PS4 and PS Vita, and adds side-scrolling action/puzzle platforming to the mix while still maintaining key gameplay mechanics such as teleporting and systematically disabling your enemy’s defence systems.
FuturLab recently released pre-alpha gameplay footage of Velocity 2X showing the seamless transition between top-down shooting and side-scrolling platforming. The video also gives us a preview of Joris de Man’s subtle trance soundtrack. Take a look (and listen) below:
Velocity 2X will be released sometime during 2014 for PS4 and PS Vita. Stay tuned to El33tonline for more news about this promising indie title for PlayStation platforms.
