Say… ever since the announcement of the Xbox One, have you ever seen the console being stood up vertically in promotional imagery and videos? Likewise, did you ever see the Xbox 360 being promoted while sitting horizontally?
Curiously, the design of the Xbox One doesn’t support the console standing vertically on its side. This according to Xbox senior director of product management and planning, Albert Panello, who told Gamespot:
“We don’t support vertical orientation [with Xbox One]; do it at your own risk. [...] it wouldn’t be a cooling problem, we just didn’t design the drive for vertical. Because it’s a slot loading drive, we just didn’t design it for both.”
Defending the decision to officially only support a horizontally standing console, Panello claimed that “80 percent of people, believe it or not, have their Xbox horizontally.”
Do you believe it? How do you stand your Xbox 360 and other consoles, vertically or horizontally? And last question: Have you ever seen an older style Xbox 360 and Xbox One standing in the same place? Makes you think, doesn’t it…
Look out for the launch of the Xbox One in specific territories around the world on November 22nd, and the rest of the globe in 2014.
