Shortly after the announcement that Rockstar Games and Take-Two’s Grand Theft Auto V had generated $800 million in launch day revenue, which in itself is a record, it has been revealed that the game has gone on to record $1 billion in sales just three days following its release on September 17th.
Chairman and CEO of Take-Two, Strauss Zelnick, commented:
“Grand Theft Auto is a cultural phenomenon and Rockstar Games continues to redefine what can be achieved in interactive entertainment. We are incredibly proud of the extraordinary critical and commercial response to Grand Theft Auto V.”
In addition, and according to internal sales estimates, Take-Two says that “this marks the fastest that any entertainment property, including videogames and feature films, has reached this significant milestone.” Previous record holders in videogames and films, namely Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and The Avengers respectively, took over fifteen days to reach the same milestone.
