Sony has revealed the initial line-up of PS3 games which can be upgraded to their respective PS4 versions for a modest fee. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Watch Dogs, NBA 2K14 and Battlefield 4 are the confirmed titles so far, with players only having to pay R95/£9.99/€9.99 (or R140/£11.99/€14.99 for NBA 2K14) to upgrade to the next-gen digital version of these games.
The one caveat is that you’ll need to have the PS3 disc inserted in your PS4 while you’re playing the digital version of one of the games featured in this upgrade scheme, although this isn’t an issue if you purchased the digital PS3 version of the game in question.
Physical copies of these games will come with a special code which grants you access to the digital PS4 version of that particular title at the reduced rate, while buying the digital PS3 version of a qualifying game will automatically discount its digital PS4 version on the PlayStation Store provided you’re using the same PSN account.
This upgrade program lasts for a limited time as you’ll need to redeem your code and make the purchase before January 31st, 2014 for Assassin’s Creed IV and Watch Dogs, March 28th for Battlefield 4, or March 31st for Call of Duty: Ghosts and NBA 2K 14. Even if you don’t have access to a PS4 before this time, you can still purchase the next-gen version of a qualifying game on the PlayStation Web Store via PC.
Will you be taking advantage of any of these upgrade offers? Let us know in the comments.
